Little one, I see you
beyond all they said you couldn't be
a child of wonder
being everything and more
you are His precious seed
you are the one God sent
to teach the blind to see
you are the gift God gave
to bring out the best in me
my child of music
and brilliant memory
you are a work of art
so much more than your special need
Little one I see you
your light shines and will always be
a lesson for the wise
you are God's love inside of me
Love, Mom
Cameron is 10 years old and attends school at Jonathan Alder Elementary.
Cam is great at math, art, music, and loves Scooby Doo. He lives for pizza, strawberry milk,
and loves to help me cook!
Cam could memorize and mock the dialog to full-length movies, music, and television,
at age two. He is animated, and constantly living 'in character'. Cam is great at imitating accents as well. After
viewing the first Harry Potter movie, Cam walked into the kitchen and asked us for a snack in perfect British accent!
Cam's ability to memorize every detail, movement, expression, and every single word of dialog, only gets sharper with age.
Autism has many forms. Cameron was initially diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum
Disorder/PDD at age 5, however, his character is more consistent with what is called Hyperlexia. Cam thinks in 'concrete'
terms, takes spoken direction extremely well, and is hypersensitive to sound. He will memorize the sequence to the
code on the parental controls for the PS2 if you're not careful to see that he is not standing next to you!
Cam's ability in music and art come naturally. He, like
his dad, favors classic rock n roll. Since he was very young, you can
hear him singing the lyrics to songs like 'All Along The Watchtower' by Jimi Hendrix; 'Brown Eyed Girl' by Van Morrison; and
many other classic favorites. His favorite movies are; all Scooby Doo movies; 'Forrest Gump'; 'That Thing You Do'; and anything
with Adam Sandler in it! Cam has become fond of Native American music as I have been exposing him to music of different
cultures.
As for the future, Cam has many options open to him. He could end up on Broadway,
or in film; he could end up a world class chef; a musician. No matter what he chooses to do; the more I feed his ability,
the less disabled he becomes. While Autism can be very hard on both the child and parents; Cameron's Autism also makes
him the wonderfully talented and vibrant child that he is. We wouldn't have him any other way!
God bless the child...
